Resize a Cloud Pool virtual machine
Published 9/28/2026· 17 views
You can increase a VM's resources from free capacity remaining in its Cloud Pool.
What you can change
From the VM Settings tab:
| Resource | How it works |
|---|---|
| vCPU | Set a new core count |
| Memory | Set a new memory size (MB in the form) |
| Storage | Add additional root-disk space in GB (growth only) |
Resize is limited by the pool's remaining quota after other VMs are counted.
Steps
- Open Compute → Cloud pools → your pool → the VM.
- Open the Settings tab.
- Enter the new CPU and/or memory values, and/or how many GB of storage to add.
- Submit the resize.
- Wait for the queued job to finish, then refresh the page if metrics still look old.
Important limits
- You can only spend capacity the pool still has free.
- Storage resize is typically grow-only — you cannot shrink the disk from this form.
- A running guest may need a reboot (or filesystem grow steps inside the OS) before it fully sees new CPU, memory, or disk.
Tips
- Check the pool header meters before resizing a large VM.
- Resize one resource at a time if you are troubleshooting.
- Plan disk growth before the guest filesystem fills up; the portal add only expands the virtual disk.
Still stuck?
Open a support ticket from Support → Tickets if resize fails with a capacity error you believe is wrong, or the guest never sees the new size after a reboot.
